About Us

Hi, Mike,
Starting 2013 off right we spent five days with you sailing from Oahu to Molokai, Lanai, Maui, Molokai and back to Oahu, we were looking forward to seeing you again. Understanding scheduling conflicts around the Christmas Holidays you placed us in very good hands. Paul Reid was our captain and was marvelous, from the time he greeted us at the dock to the sad good byes after returning back to dock. This trip was different, just an evening sunset sail. Plenty of daylight to enjoy the sights and then a wonderful sunset complete with a green flash. This time we brought our 19 and 21 year old daughters, they had a great time seeing sea turtles and Patrice"s sail was made complete when we saw Whales near Diamond Head. Encountering a Pirate ship on open seas was fun. Paul got into the act. May I suggest large water guns to defend your boats. Deje vu. Paul had very little time behind the wheel like you. One day I will get to sail in the Harbor and dock the boat. : ).
Thanks to Paul for the great sail.

Hi Paul,
I doubt you remember my name....perhaps not even my face as it's been ages ago, but I crewed for you a short bit with the Honolulu Sailing Company back around 2003.

I believe we did some day sail charters as well as a longer ~5 day charter to Maui. We caught a Mahi mid-channel between Oahu and Molokai, then ripped a sail somewhere near Molokai. Long story short, I just wanted to let you know that the short time we sailed together shaped my life from that point forward. I continued sailing on the Big Island, eventually gaining my USCG captain's license, and then running a 50' charter sailboat out of Kawaihae.

I've since moved back to Montana, gotten married and have instilled the love of sailing into my new husband. Amazingly, I've convinced him to run away from life for a while to cruise and enjoy life. We're currently in San Carlos, Mexico refitting a lovely 1962 Pearson Triton to sail the coming year here in the Sea of Cortez. I've spoken about you often to my husband, Mark, and was wondering if there was a way to track you down. The power of Google is amazing!

Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know what a positive and strong influence you were - and continue to be - in my life. I thank you for your generous teaching, patience and for instilling not only the love of sailing, but the love of life. Also, during that Maui trip, you wrote down a list of books I needed to read. I carried that list for years in my wallet, slowly making my way through the reads. All great. All wonderful. Thank you for those as well.

Take care and I'd love to hear how life is treating you in Hawaii sometime.

Just wanted to thank you for the amazing trip we had with Captain Paul!

I couldn't have hoped for a better captain, teacher, cook, or guide for our recent trip to Hawaii. We arrived with open expectations, knowing the itinerary would be entirely weather dependent, and while we hit a good window for our departure, I can't say enough about how much I learned under the tutelage of Paul. In the bigger seas of the Kaiwi channel, on a close reach for Molokai for 8 hours, it was really fun how he could balance instruction with information, and still with a happy countenance go below, and shortly thereafter bring up sandwiches for everyone in very bumpy seas.

After the first crossing of the channel, on the second day, when we thought it would be easier sailing for a few days, the next thing we knew we were heaved to in order to put a 3rd reef in the main, and then were still making 7 knots on our way to Lanai! If we hadn't have had excellent instruction by Paul in these types of maneuvers on the first day in the easier water around Honolulu we wouldn't have been able to perform the adjustments underway with the confidence in which we did them. The rest of the trip was very much the same in regards to learning to adjust to weather, and running just as much sail as would bring us along without too much weather-helm. I can't say enough about how Captain Paul gave all of us such an experience of sailing, and an adventure we'll never forget! This was certainly the best Christmas gift my wife could've ever given me, and joined me on as well.

Just wanted to let you know that my group had an amazing time on the Kahala Kai last night. Glen and Carl were perfect and people kept commenting on how great they were.
Thanks for a great memory =)
